At 1000 Currie Avenue, I was staying on the 2nd floor, which was their Pay for Stay program.
So, naturally, I made the move over to the 2nd floor of Higher Ground.

My last day at Higher Ground shelter was November 9th, 2019. I left the shelter to go to the library as usual. I had continued to work on this concept for a new nonprofit doing what everyone else in the "helping community" had failed to do. I went back to the shelter, and after waiting in line, outside, when it was my turn I walked up to the door and was greeted by the Simpson shelter director. He said there was an opening at St Stephens shelter. I said I wasn't planning to go to a different shelter. He said that I was "No longer welcome" at Higher Ground shelter. Catholic Charities gave me NO WARNING, NO REASON AND NO DIALOGUE. I never got into a fight, though I had seen plenty, and had been threatened many times in their facility. Days before I was told I was no longer welcome, I did speak up online, criticizing Catholic Charities for providing no support to vote during the election in 2018. I was at this shelter in 2012, during the time of the election, and Catholic Charities provided all manner of transportation to guests to get to the polls to vote. But, in 2018 there wasn't any mention of the election and support to vote at all!
The first time was just walking in the door for the first time back in the shelter system, March 2nd, 2017. Five other times by staff with their security wand, between the legs. Three times by one staff that started out as a Security Guard, who, at that time touched me with hand spread wide on my bare back while shaving.
Catholic Charities is very very out of control with their deviant behavior!
This is an issue that all the shelter have trouble successfully addressing. We have a State Law that says (as I understand) it is against the law to smoke in a public facility.

I believe it was July 18th, 2012 when we made the transition from 1000 Currie Avenue, next to Salvation Army, to the new Higher Ground Shelter.
